Industry Registration in Nepal: When and Why

Registering a company and registering an industry are two different things, and confusing them is common. Company registration creates the legal entity; industry registration recognises the productive enterprise and unlocks the incentives and obligations that come with it.

Which businesses register as industries

Manufacturing, energy, tourism, agriculture, IT, and service industries are classified and registered with the Department of Industry, or with provincial bodies for smaller industries. The classification by scale and sector determines the incentives available and the approvals required.

What registration gives, and asks

Industry registration can open access to incentives, facilitation, and in some cases land and utility support, particularly for priority sectors. In return come obligations: environmental compliance for certain industries, reporting, and adherence to the conditions of registration.

Sequencing it correctly

For most ventures the order is company first, then industry registration, then sector-specific licences. Mapping the full sequence at the outset, rather than discovering a missing approval mid-build, is what keeps a project on schedule.
